Drum Brakes-rebuild, need some help here

I am in the process of redoing the drum brakes on my S10. They are probably the same ones as a camaro, so i thought it would be applicable here. the problem that i have is with the wheel cyliders. i got the old one off, but i can't get that stupid clip on that holds the cylinder in place. i bought all new parts from the cylinders to the drums. the self adjusters were 17 bucks a side, ouch. anyway, 170 bucks later, i am stuck. i know there are some shop guys and other knowledgeable shadetrees in here, someone has to have done this before. one of you guys please tell me how to get that f'in clip back on.

Clamp the cyl in place with a big C-clamp, and bonk the clip on with a BFH.

Use a 1 1/8" 12 point socket and extension bonked with the aformentioned BFH.

thanks for the tips, i will try the socket idea. if that doesn't work can i bend the clips a little to make them snap on easier (within reason of course).?
