Changing tire sizes
Changing tire sizes
I believe my 87 GTA with the stock 16 inch gold mess wheels and 245/50ZR16 tires has a little too much space between the tires and fender well.
I know one fix is to go to 17 inch wheels, but I like the stock wheels and don't want to replace them right now.
Will changing to a taller tire fill up this space some?
Do they even make a 235/60ZR16 tire?
Also, will a taller tire rub on the fender well as the suspension is compressed during normal street driving?

You could maybe get a taller tire, but I'm not sure how good it would look. Why don't you just get a one inch spring drop kit or something. If you get a different tire then you will throw off the speedo some too.

You can put a 255/50/16 tire on the car. I just put a pair of Toyo Proxes F1 tires on my rear and it looks better than the 245/50/16 I had.

DS,
255's do make a small amount of difference but if you want a killer stance and look the only way to go is with 18"rims.I have 9.5 rear and 9"fronts all with 265/40x18" Bridgestones.Yes they are quite expensive but well worth it.While you are at it lower the car with springs from a reputable supplier,I used Edelbrock.Check out the pics on www.lintonbros.ic24.net/car1.jpg

Giant sidewalls look like a$$. The turd who had my old 84 before me put Seiberling truck tires on it. I smacked him in the back of the head for that one.
Best thing is just to lower the car with some springs. Cheaper than a set of tires, plus it helps your handling out some.
