Would a bad Idler Arm cause this???

I don't think it would but I'm trying to narrow down a persistent problem..........When I hit a bump or, occasionally, when I am braking the steering wheel will shake back and forth violently. If I turn the wheel back and forth it will stop. I have checked the tie rods and the rotors are not warped. There is not a crack in steering box area. When I went in for an alignment, my regular shop told me I my Idler Arm was on the way out. Would I see these symptoms from this type of defect. Thanks.
