IROC Suspension Q's
IROC Suspension Q's
Ok guys, I recently acquired an junked out 87 IROC for parts. I am going to put the suspension under my 89 RS, and I have a few Q's about some of the parts. The IROC has the wonder bar, and the 36mm hollow front sway bar which I will definetly use and I will use the rear sway bar. I will also install polyurethane end link bushings and tubular lower control arms and panhard rod. The car already has KYB shocks and a polyurethane transmission mount and torque arm bushing. My question is about the springs, I recently put 17" wheels on the car and I want the best handling set-up I can get from used factory parts, I will upgrade to aftermarket later. The IROC has 6ZW, LH - FR and 7ZW, RH - FR and 8NL, LH - R and 9NL, RH - R springs. Are these desirable springs for handling or are there better factory ones?? I ask because I know where a few more IROCs and one WS6 Formula is at that I could get springs from if I needed. Thanx in advance.

The 6ZW&7ZW springs are going to be about the highest sping rate springs that you are going to find. The last 2 characters are the rate(ZW),I do not know what the first chacacter means. But "XX" is the lightest, and "ZZ" is the heaviest. The top 4 springs "ZW,ZX,ZY,ZZ" are all replaced by a single GM part# 14029399.
So the IROC spring installation would be a good move.In my opinion.
The rear springs are kinda the same way "UZ" being the lightest, and "NB" being the heaviest. NNM & NNB are only used on the FE2 & F41 suspensions.
So again, that would be a pretty good move.

By the way! I am installing '86 IROC front springs in my '82Z28, and I noticed that the IROC "BZX" front springs are 3" shorter than the stock '82 springs. Just thought I would mention it.

Basset Racing,
Are you positive that the 87 IROC has a 36 mm front stablizer bar? I ask because I've been led to believe that that particular bar came in only 89-92 Camaros (and 86-92 Firebirds).
