thirdgen rear spring selection?
As I posted awhile ago, I have had problems in my '86 IROC aabout the rearend getting loose in corners. I currently have the rear out of the car, and am building a Torsen HD rear out of a 4thgen housing, W/3.73's. The shocks are all great, and the LCA's and Panhard rod are Lakewoods. I'm thinking the springs are weak. After all, the front's hard as a rock and the rear can bounce just by pushing down on it. I heard of 4thgen springs (I've noticed 4thgen rears are tighter)and 1LE rear spring upgrades. I have chopped stock front IROC springs, which I'd like to keep. Anybody have this experience, and if so, what kind kind spring did you use? BTW: I'm running all polyurethane w/a 24mm stock rear swaybar. That's the only other thing I could think it'd be. Thanks for the suggestions.

hey,
this may be a little too "academic" but anyway...
if your rear is loose (oversteer) the way to correct it is with SOFTER springs in the rear (or stiffer fronts) same theory goes for sway bars, but to a lesser extent. As long as everything else in the suspension is in good shape, this is "theoretically" how it should work. This experience is coming from road racing with TransAm cars though, so our cars may not react quite the same. I'll encourage someone who's seen and fixed this issue before to answer. it's not always academic

I thought about that, but the rear springs are so soft and loose already. About the only way to make it softer is to take them out (kidding...). Anybody? I don't like playing the pick-a-part game. Thanks to anybody who can help.
