how do you torque the struts?

I finally got around to putting on my struts and I can't get them torqued because the rods keep spinning. there is a place to put an allen wrech in the top, but then I wouldn't be able to get the socket on. Its a lock nut so I don't think it will come off. would it be ok if I got it really tight with a wrench and called it good? My chiltons manual says to torque to 44 ft-lbs, is hand tight around there?

Use a box wrench instead of a socket, or an air gun.

I've been using a box wrench. But they don't tell you how many ft-lbs your pulling on them.

well I solved my own problem. I used those crow feet sockets with the open ends and put that on my torque wrench. Worked great!
