Take a look at your steering box, then look at your entire front end suspension components.

I have the answer....I had the same problem with both of my Camaros. I fixed it on this one. I did alot of front end work to make sure the steering was good and tight but I still had the slop.

I adjusted the steering box. There is a bolt in the top of the box. I think it is a 5/8" locking nut and an allen head center bolt. I loosened the locking nut well off with a deep socket and a lot of extensions. Than I turned the allen head center into the housing. Mine was really bad!!! i had to put 4 turns on it. Just take it down till it barely touches and you might want to back it off a bit for good measure. Don't reef on it like it is holding the wheel on!! make sure you hold the allen head bolt and tighten the locking nut agian. It made all the difference in the world to my car. It drives like it came off the lot now.

The problem is most likely the "rag joint" is worn out. Have your wife, girlfriend, etc turn the wheel. With the engine off. And you will see what I mean.

Rag joint, idler arm, centerlink, loose steering box, the rest of the front suspension, etc... Alignment can help the loose feel going down the road.

I'd say watch out when adjusting your steering box. Too much tightening will burn up your steering box and power steering pump cuz it'll cause too much stress on the internal mechanisms. Also, if u tighten too much, your steering wont retrun to center when u let go of the wheel. Check your centerlink first. Its the one that connects to the idler arms. Usually, if steering is out that bad, its that piece. Good luck!

Do the gear box and be careful not to tighten too much. I backed my allen screw off about a 1/4 turn after it got snug. My steering tightened up 10 fold and it still returns to center after a corner. Try it! It takes 10 minutes to do and if it dosn't work loosen it back up. It could save you big $$$$

yea, don't burn up your steering box!!! I made that mistake, but I learned that there are TWO adjustments that can be made, check the chiltons manual. pull the plastic cover off of the steering shaft, the rag joint is near the steering box. the whole shaft is $150,the coupling is $12 if you want to rebuild it. thats where all of the play in mine was.
