Semi-metallics are usually a safe bet. They're cheaper, and don't eat rotors like full-metallics do. I noticed that my semi-metallics lock up easily if they're still cold, though. That might not be normal.
I definitely noticed a difference when they're warm. Much nicer feel. As for the brake dust, I don't see any.

i have the lifetime pads from auto-zone all the way around on my z 28 and they dont dust that much. they are made by performance friction.

I used to have that problem on my wife's blazer. Someone on the board suggested to try Raybestos semi-metallic semi-performance pads. I did and haven't seen a bit of brake dust since. As far as the performance they work very well when heated up, but are a bit sluggish when cold. This only happens during cold weather, however even then it only takes a few stops to heat them up. They are a little more expensive than Autozone pads, but much better in my opinion. I think they were around $35-$40. Give them a try, I think you will like them.
