Adjusting Rear Drums

I just installed new brake shoes on my Trans Am. Easy stuff, really. But now I have 1 thing bugging me. It's the adjustment of the shoes. Yesterday i drove around with them adjusted all the way in. Today i re-adjusted them like a mechanic told me to :"Shoes should slide on the drums, and the drums should JUST be able to fit over the shoes"
So this means the wheels are supposed to be harder to spin?? I can spin them, but with added difficulty. Thanks for any responses.

There should be some drag...The wheel should go a couple of revs and then stop by itself.

Hey Engineboy,

Do the self adjusters get them that close? Or would a periodic manual adjustment be better? My car has always felt like the rear drums aren't grabbing as well as they sould after I changed shoes and had the drums turned. I know that like 80-90% of the work is done by the front brakes, but mine will lock up the fronts before the rear brakes do. Is that normal with the 3rd gen Camaros? Maybe I'm to used to my S-10 locking up the rears because of the little bit of weight over the back axle.

AJ : In a perfect world, the adjusters would do all the adjusting...not so.

Every once in a while its good to adjust them manually.
