Nobody can answer the question of whether or not your car looks good lowered except you. Some people like it, some don't. Is a opinionated poll gonna make a difference in your own opinion?

Now on the technical side, it depends on how radical a drop you are looking for. For a slight lowering, say half an inch, simply switching to some IROC springs might accomplish that. Aftermarket springs can drop the car a little more; say 1 to 2 inches. Anything more, and your suspension starts suffering, so you need dropped spindles, rear LCA relocating brackets, and a shorter or adjustable panhard bar to put your suspension back to it's proper geometry. That's when things like your exhaust system, deep transmission oil pans, and other stuff under the car start getting threatened by it's proximity to the ground.

Decide how much you want to lower the car. If you want, there's a number of people here who are talented at and enjoy photo manipulation. You could probably leave a digital picture of your car and ask someone to alter it so you can see how it would look at various ride heights.

I think all cars should be as close to the ground as possible. If you want your car otherwise then buy a truck.

It will look good. When I lowered my 82 it looked much nicer--that was back when it was bright red, no FX, no spoiler, 15 inch wheels. It was one of the first mods I did.

Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, current red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

82camaro what kit did you use for your V-6. because i heard if you use the one for the v-8 it will set higher than stock because of less weight.

Not to offend anyone but I don't like lowered cars at all, especially Camaros, aren't they low enough already? I think any car or truck look's stupid sitting 1" off the ground, but that's just my opinion, if you put late model ground effects on it, it will make it look lower and you won't have to crawl over every little raised reflector on the road.

A company called 'vette brakes' sells a performance package that lowers the car as well as increases the suspension performance.

I'll be saving the 600 bucks for that one soon.

I put the eibach pro kit on my 82Z, and I think it looks TIGHT!! It closed my wheel opening gaps nicely, and I cant even tell you what it did for my handling! Ride quality didnt suffer enough to even talk about. But, make sure you dont buy the sportline kit! Unless you dont like your kidneys......

Re: LOWERING?

When I return from Korea in the next week I'll be applying a set of eibach 1.5" lowering coils (not sure which one they are, think the guy advertised sports) to my front end. They're for a z28 but I have a v6 and am hoping to retain stock height, MAYBE (if I'm lucky) a little lower. I figured for $50 bucks it was worth a gamble. If it doesn't work I got a buddy I could pawn them off on. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Re: LOWERING?

with a v 6 it will sit higher then a v 8. the springs are assumed a 1 inch drop for a v8 camaro for the eibach pro kit....the front springs are 714 lbs per inch. so if you have less weight up front it will not compress the spring as much. and it will ride harder as well with less weight up front to.

Re: LOWERING?

I understand that, but am hoping that the !.5 in drop will make up for the difference in weight keeping it roughly about stock height. As long as my nose isn't pointed towards the sky I think I'll be happy. By my estimate (from comparing my buddies v8 swap, and mine) I'll gain up to .5" while also eliminating a LOT of body roll. My buddies camaro dropped about 2-2.25" when we pulled the 2.8 and dropped the 5.7 in w/o replacing springs. If I don't like then I guess my buddy gets his much needed springs. No worries. It's more of an experiment than anything. They were cheap and I'll see how it goes. I just figured I'd post it as an FYI alternative idea. I just didn't notice this thread had died long ago when I was reading it.

Re: LOWERING?

i put ebach sportlines on mine and i love it... its a 87 formula with no gfx i like the way it looks better than my 86 TA with gfx. while u do the springs u should do the shocks/struts, bushings, and ur gona need an adjustable panhard rod and LCA relocation brackets.... esp with the sportlines 1.6" drop.

there is a thread maybe within the last 2 weeks that has pics of lowered fbodies without gfx

This thread is useless without pictures. See my signature below, thats an 86 S/C with no GFX, on lowering springs.

Re: LOWERING?

Whatever you use, don't forget shocks or you'll be driving something that corners like a turd once the lowering springs finish destroying your OEM or OER shocks.

I already ordered a set of KYB G2 up front and probably be using the same in back. I'm sure it'll all go good with the 36mm front swaybar that's on it now andthe 24mm rear I have waiting to go on when I get back home.

Re: LOWERING?

That's good to hear. I drove on 2 month old Monroe Sensa-tracs when I installed the Pro-Kit....that lasted about 6 months, and they were shot. They made fart noises and stank when I replaced them with the KONIs. ehehehe

Re: LOWERING?

The V6 won't weigh as much as the V6 so the V6 car will set higher in the front than it normally would. You might have to look into V6 springs or order a set of fronts a little shorter but at the same rates as the Pro-Kit.

Re: LOWERING?

Is it possible for 85Maro to put in Moog 5662 and lower his car? I saw these figures on another posting.
Front

5608 - free hght 14.88
to 5662 - free hght of 13.01

If 85Maro did put these 5662 in the car and hypothetically he had the 5608's, wouldn't this drop the front at least 1.8inches?

Re: LOWERING?

It depeneds on the spring rate and if they're linear or progressive. If I remember correctly the 5662 are just shorter springs with a higher rate and the 5608 are longer but softer for a more casual ride. This, in effect, is what I'm attempting to do with the front springs from an Eibach Pro kit (made for V8, using on V6). Use the shorter harder springs to hopefully retain factory height (what can I say they were CHEAP). He's most likely already handled it as this post was started 6 yrs ago. I just wasn't paying attention when I posted on it again a couple of days ago.

But no they are both for stock height one is just made sport suspension and the other is for touring.
