When exactly did the skip shift(which is dumb anyway) start on the T-56 in fourth generations? My buddy has a 1983 Chevy G20 that he is redoing and he has an LT1 all balanced, blueprinted, and ready to go. He wants a 6-speed manual to back it up and the T-56 is with the LT1 in the fourth generation. So, what tranny to look at? 93-?? I know skip shift started in 94 or 95 but I can't figure which one. Help!

don't worry about it. You can get a skip shift bypass for cheap.

Well, what exactly is the skip shift? Is it a valve body with a light for the instrument panel? Or is it totally inside the tranny? How much would a skip shift bypass run?

The skip shift is controlled by the computer. Just pulling the connector out of the Tranny bypasses it. The skipshift kits are just a pair of covers for the two connectors to protect them from the weather, nothing else. Don't buy a kit. If you want to protect the connectors, either tape them up or silicone them

The skip shift is a solenoid (or two) that mechanicaly lock you out of 2nd and 3rd gear. Then the car is going 15-25 MPH, coolant temp is at X, and the throttle is less than 25% it engages.

The skip shirft eliminator kit is a resistor that plugs into the solenoid harness. It basically fakes the solenoid into never engaging. The light on the dash will still work though. You can just unplug the solenoid, but that sets codes.
