Anyone know about front-end/steering parts????URGENT ?s
Problem:My car gets the bad shakes 60mph plus.
so... today I took it to get the tires rebalanced and they were fine. Then the guy showed me that when the steering wheel is held straight (on a lift) you can wobble the front wheels around. He said I could have a problem with a steering part. The real problem is that I leave for a 2 hour drive to college on saturday 8/18 so I need this fixed A.S.A.P!!! How do I diagnose it? Can I fix it? How much $$ should I expect to dish out???

I'm no expert but I say check all the bushing and the tie rod ends for play. If you are in a big emergency, have a shop fix it for you, at least you know it will get done right, and will save you the hastle in case something goes wrong.

I spent under $200 for every moving part in the steering, plus an alignment. Did all the labor myself in one day.
If you're not a mechanic at heart, it would probably be best to take it to a shop... a big name one, so you can get any warranty issues fixed at your new locale.

well i checked....seems everything moves below the balljoints and everything above stays still (when I jiggle side to side). Does that mean the ball joints are bad? or maybe need to be tightened? Where can I buy? How much $? Can I fix? Thanks.
Sorry--not balljoints...I think I meant balljoint studs??(what shop manual calls it I think) It is where the inner tie rods connect to the relay rod/pitman arm and the idler arm on the passenger side.

Where's the fire??
If you're in that big of a hurry, take it to a shop and have it fixed:; they'll probably charge you more for a rush job. If you can't fit that in, set the cruise at 55 and leave an hour early...fix it later. In my opinion, I'd wait and replace everything later with quality poly parts and do it right while you're in there. If it's just the ball joints, you STILL have to pull the control arms off to have them pressed out, so why not do the lower control arm bushings too? I don't think you can "tighten" a ball joint..once the go, they're gone. They're about $15 each at any parts store (buy Moog or TRW), and unless you have a press in your dorm room, no, you can't do it. Good luck man..
