rear-end swap q's

I am curious to know..... I have a drum brake 2.73 rear end....If i purchased an iroc disc brake rear end....could this swap be done in the driveway? How difficult of a swap is it for someone with mechanic experience?

Make sure you get all of the bracketing for the calipers, you need to master cylinder and proportioning valve. Be prepared for this to take more than one day as all of the bolts and nuts have fused together over the years. You'll need lots of room to drop the rear if you don't use spring compressors. Do a search, because this is a very common swap.

Did this same swap in my driveway. Took about one day. Hardest part of the whole thing is fighting with the bolts. If you've never had the backend a part there bound to be very tight. I recommend u find a good size pipe to put on the end of your rachet or breaker bar.
Good Luck
P.S Be careful with those brake lines.

Going to doing this swap myself soon. Luckily I will doing it in a shop. However I helped do it with my brothers truck in his driveway, used air tools and had no problems.

Yeah, the rear swap is cake; the hardest part is getting the brakes set up. I put a 3.73/posi/disc axle into my car; I fought with a bad "rebuilt" master cylinder for a week. Another "rebuilt" m/c fixed the problem, and gave me rear brakes. I also rebuilt one caliper, replaced the other, replaced the rear wheel bearings & seals, painted it with POR-15, etc...

But an axle-for-axle swap is cake.

You also don't -have- to change the master cylinder. Apeiron dug up a GM notice for us (thanks!!) that shows proof that the disk/drum master cylinder -will- work on a 4-wheel-disc system. Here's the message link: https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/001977.html

Hey! Can we get that message put into the FAQ?
