How do I unsqueak my squeaky brakes?

A friend put new Autozone pads on 500 miles ago. They started to squeak about 250 miles ago.
They squeak when I'm braking softly and quietly when I'm moving. I can hear it squeak at high speeds when I'm next to a bridge and the sound bounces off it. It seems like it's louder on the driver's side, but that might just be due to the fact that that's the side I'm closer to.

I've only taken apart drum brakes before, so I'm not sure where to start, but here's what I've done so far:

1) Got pissed that my new pads were already squeaking
2) Ran out to Carquest and bought Disc-Brake-Quiet
3) Removed wheel
4) Inspected brake assembly
5) Inserted proper sized hex key into hex hole on rod on brake
6) Turned hex key and it wouldn't budge
7) Realized I had no idea what I was doing
8) Signed online and posted this message

Help!

What it sounds like is that you have "glased" your brakes. How that happens is that they got wet and heated up rather hot. Try rideing your brake for 100 yards. the lenght of a football field. that should take care of it. If that is it, it should go away. If not something else is wrong. try it and write back.

well it worked alright

THANK YOU! brake squeaking is so annoying.

Except, will the noise come back? Or do I just need to ease off on the brakes when it's wet out?

Would putting the disc brake quiet help or no?

The good pads have silencers on the back of them and the cheap ones don't. If you got the cheap Autozone one's then it's always going to be a problem.

I Used AutoZone Albany (lifetime warranty) brakes on the Camaro for the past couple of years with no problem... did you put that "disc brake quiet" on the brakes to begin with? If so, you shouldnt have a problem with them squeaking until they get worn down to the squealers.

Just FYI ... In my experience, disc brakes are simpler than drum brakes.
