Hey, I have an 86 Firebird Trans Am. My steering is really loose: what I mean is the alignment is ok but the steering wheel can be turned quite a bit in both directions before it starts steering. I was told this car does not have a rack and pinion system. What type of steering do they use and is this a common issue?

This problem makes it slightly difficult to stay straight on the road.
