WS6 steering box?
WS6 steering box?
I have an '84 T/A without the WS6 package. I remember reading that besides the wheels and sway bars, the steering box is also different.
I have an opportunity to purchase a steering box that is described as follows:
This is a 2 1/2 turns to 1 quick ratio steering box used in the factory performance handling packagesout of an '82 Camaro Z28. Will fit 82-92 Camaro & Firebird.
Is this box different than the one I have?

Probably the same as the one you have. 90-92 hi-ratio box with stops for 16x8" wheels has "XH" stamped on cover. This is supposed to be the best one.Don't know gm part#.Hope this helps.

I removed the original steering box from my '82 Z-28. I installed one from a 1986 IROC
The IROC box was a tremendous improvement.
Also keep in mind that the "wonder bar" will also improve your steering rate. It helps prevent any unwanted lateral movement of the steering box, or frame that it it attached to.

The higher effort quick ratio IROC or WS6 box has 2.25 turns and came out in 1985 with the 16" wheel package. The 2.5 turn unit is the stock Z28 box. The ratio isn't bad, but the steering effort is just like any domestic luxury car from the mid eighties.
