new to cars...need help finding info to learn about handling/suspension/chassis

i am new to cars in general...until i actually rode in a camaro i didnt car about cars...now i have my own sitting in my driveway and dont know anything besides doing cosmetics to my car. It has now came to the point where I need to worry about my performance not how my car looks.

i have one big problem. I dont know anything about performance. Could anyone direct me to some good sources to learn about such things as improving my handling, choosing a right suspension, strengthing my ride with sway bars, roll ccages, etc?

tonight it really hit me about how my car rides. My suspension is extremly tight and I swere my car is bouncing around when I go over a peble. If I pay close enough attention I can feel my car sway from side to side. (not to mention when I go over a bump, my doors move up and down and my exhuast is missing a few hangers so my pipes rattle) all on top of that the annoying hum of my extremly loud feul pump, which is gotta get fixed immediatly, is all really bothering.

there are a lot of noises when i turn off my stereo.

about a tight suspension; it sounds pretty loose to me if it is swaying from side to side. Talk to people you meet that are into cars. I am a freshman at TCU this semester, and already I've met four or five guys who drag race--one of them's father owns a racing shop and the guy's car(2001 SS with tricked out 383) that he drives to school each day is running 10s. But just read the boards, ask questions, you'll learn a lot. There are books you can read to get basics--go to your bookstore, automobile/automotive/ transportation section, I forget what exactly it's called. Subscribe to magazines--hotrod, high perforamance chevy will get into it the quickest. Motor trend, car and driver and those only do new, stock vehicles, with more and more trucks and SUV's every month, sadly.

You could also go to your local bookstore and look for these two books to get a general idea of thirdgen suspensions and ways to improve them, after you have an idea what's going on you can review the boards and draw your own conclusions based on other folks experiences. Consequently, I prefer Global West for my suspension, tried Hotchkiss and prefer Global West out of CA. The books are #1 "How to tune and Modifiy your Camaro, 82-92" by Jason Scott, it says it's a Motorsports Powertech series book. #2 is "Camaro and Firebird Performance Handbook" by Peter C. Sessler. I've learned from both books, take care now and don't be afraid to ask questions, that's what these boards are for.
