flexible joint on steering shaft - what's it called
I finally figured out the source of all the mushiness and play in my car's steering. It's that damn flexible joint on the steering shaft just before it goes into the steering box
! Ugh, how I hate those things. What are they called? It's the most primtive POS I have ever seen. The rubber sheet in it rotted out and flexes around too much now. Can I retrofit the steering shaft with a small universal joint instead, like other cars use, or must I stick to this design?
Thanks in advance

Freshly converted to 5 speed
Gutted airboxes
180 degree T-stat
Advanced base TPS voltage
Relocated IAT sensor
Momo steering wheel (gotta luv it)
Ram-air setup coming soon
Flowmaster muffler (puke)
Taylor SpiroPro wires
Accel cap and rotor
Ported plenum
Throttle body bypass
Kills: '94 Z28, Olds Aurora V8, bunch of Mustangs, T-birds, ricers, and others who assumed a 13 year-old car would be too slow.

Yes, it's called a Ragjoint, or Steering Coupler for the eddikated types...LOL Folks have said on here that they have bought and replaced them but I've never found any that fit right. All that I've ever found are always physically to large and dimensionally off hole wise. I wish someone would tell where to get the correct replacement. Then again, I doubt like Hell anyone other than me that lives here in montana even knows that they exist let alone the name...LOL If you find some, I'd greatly appreciate it if you clue me in on where. Later man and take care
You can get the rag joint at NAPA or most stores in the the Help brand isle($8-13). Most store comptuer will tell them to use a rag joint that is to big/round, you will need the smaller round one. The problem with all of them is that they are Universal. This requires some modifications, such as different bolts and sometimes some grinding. Rumor is that you can get the rag joint with the upper shaft already assembled, from GM/dealership. Someone said it was $35, search the message board and the dealership.
