What size rims do I have? And other tires questions. Please answer!
Ok, my tire size is 195/60R14's, but when I measure the rim it comes out being 15 inches??? I thought 14 ment rim size?
Also, how wide are my rims, and what's the widest tires I can put on them and have it look good and normal without ballooning? What do I have to do to get them to fit? I was thinking of getting BF Goodrich radial comp TA's, something like 245/50 R14?'s work?, what can you guys say about them? I handle really pretty well on the street as it is, but I'm looking for something thats going to keep me on the road in the rain... it's scary how easily I can slide... today I was just rolling around a soft turn on a slight decline and my car totally lost all traction, so I definatly need wider better tires... Right now I'm using Michellin WeatherWise ones... they suck!!!
Thanks for your time...

You are measurng the total outside diminsions of the wheel. Wheels are not sized that way. To measure correctly you must measure the wheel without a tire on it. You measure the inside dimension where the tire bead seats, not the outside dimension. Width is measured the same way, on the inside surface of the wheel where the tire bead seats, not the total outside width of the wheel.
I don't know for sure about the width of your wheels.
Your wheels are probably 6" wide, but may be 7" wide.
On 6 inch wheels, about a 225 series tire is as wide as you can go before the tire starts "balooning" out and the tread starting to bulge in the center. A 235 would be max.
On a 7 inch wheel a 235 would be the best widest width and a 245 max with some bulging.
