CHANGING GEARS IN THE REAR END???

I need a new rear end. I was told that I could just change the gears? Is that true. Is all I do is open the rear diff. and change the gears? Could someone please give me a step by step directions. Thanks. I'm sure this will help many other people too. Thanks.
Example:
Step 1: Go to junk yard etc. . .

------------------
1984 Firebird SE
1985 Camaro z28 305 engine T-5 Five Speed Tranny, 92 Camaro Leather Seats Console, carpet everything. Soon to put in 700R4 and 427CI. (Hopefully.
To view my car go to:

It is for sale, asking $2000.

You might just want to swap the whole rear end. If you've never changed gears before, it's better to get them done, or at least get someone more experienced to help. Having the gears set up properly is the difference between them lasting 3,000 miles or 300,000 miles.

to change gear isn't that hard, but it requires some specialized tools most people don't have access to, like a dial type inch pound torque wrench, depth mike or pinion setting tool, 0-1 mike or caliper, dial indicator and magnetic base, plus assorted common hand tools. best to just open up your manual and read the drive train section for a step by step walk through or check out the tech artical on gm tech's site www.sethirdgen.org
