Wierd suspention feeling going over bumps...

So last night after work I went for a cruise. Ended up 20 minutes from home circling a parking lot with speed bumps in it... Now get this, my entire suspention is original, expect the rear shocks which were replaced about a month and a half ago with a set of Monroe Sensatracs.

So I go over the speed bump at 25 MPH (didn't see it, yes it was late and I was tired).... the front wents over, I thought it was just a bump in the road, back end goes over *bang* huge jolt... WTF gives? That doesn't seem to make sense to me. Why would it do that?

check your torque arm bolts....mine came loose and let the rear end rotate under acceleration and got the same BANG JOLT you have...may not be it but hey hopefully it will as simple as that.

Could be all that weight in the back. Do you have a speaker box or maybe that tool box you just gotta have? The rear springs are mild in comarison to the front. This is because there is less weight to hold up. When you add weight you can overpower the springs ability to keep the suspension from hitting.

Check your rear shock mounts. They are incredibly weak and fail often in these cars. They're not "mounts" at all really, they're just holes in the floor pan; since the shocks are what limits the rear end's downward travel, it may have pulled one of them out. They're under the carpet right behind the back seat.

If they are just holes... how do you replace them?

How can I get the carpet up high enough to check them?

Fold down the rear seats. Then pull the carpet up around the seat latch area. It is easier if you take out the rear side panel. Check to see if the nut on the to of the shock is loose or if the hole is rusted out.
