Shocks bad?

New Monroe Sensa-tracs...

rattling from rear, go to check shock mounts (mech installed shocks) and they were loose, when to tighten shocks and they wouldn't tighten, the bolts the nut turns on just starts to turn after I get it semi-hand-tights....

What gives, do I need new ones?

There is a hex shape on the end of the shaft. You have to hold it with wrench while turning the nut with another wrench. Use a good wrench to hold the shaft cause if it strips then you may have to toss the shock. As a last resort hold the shaft with vise-grips.
