what steps are involved in replacing ball joints?

what steps are involved in replacing ball joints?

im not asking for specific steps, but something general so i know if i should try it this weekend with everything else im planning.

Axle/Gears: 3.54 Dana 44
Jack it up, take the wheel off, put a jack under the control arm, remove the cotter pin and nut, separate the taper from the steering knuckle, press the ball joint out, press the new one in, insert the taper into the knuckle and torque the nut to spec, insert new cotter pin, grease it and lower the car.

you don't have to remove the spring, just keep a jack under the control arm.

You should know that unless you have an on-car ball-joint press, or access to one, then you'll have to completely remove the control arm and take it to a shop to have the ball-joint pressed out and in.

I think you should check the control arm bushings at the same time. The ball joint gets grease (if maintained regularly) while the bushings don't. Your old post said a clunk when you apply brakes.Just my opinion.
