What Can A Posi Picture Tell You?
Hey ThirdGen,
I just started floating around on Craigslist for a rear unit. What can you tell me about this picture?
A decent price in your honest opinion?
I called dude up and took some notes, I'm a n00b though and didn't wanna sound like a terd asking him questions. He claims this cost $500+ on summit.com, does that sound foreal foreal?
Please help me decipher this :
LIMITED SLIP CENTER - change gear ratio, 373 - good gear for highway.
++ MISC NOTES ++
limited slip - posi track, stock gear ratio. Ring pinion and only thing to purchase is the bushings, crush collar. After market setup

I had gotten a whole rearend for about $150 he needed headers I needed rearend so we traded I payed $150 for the headers. For a new carrier from gm just like the carrier you have pictured its about $900 to $950 I was given a link that helped me out alot on installing this https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...axle-gear.html

Re: What Can A Posi Picture Tell You?
That's an Auburn, looks like a stock one; 2-series it appears, although it's hard to tell, because I can't see the back side of the ring gear flange well enough to be sure. But, being as how the pinion has 15 teeth, it's probably a 2.73 (15 and 41).
THe highest numerical ratio you can put on it without using the "special" gears, is 3.08.
You can buy a better one (to the extent the word "better" can be applied to an Auburn... maybe, "not as crappy" would be more accurate) from Summit for about $400 some-odd. One for a decent gear, same price.
I wouldn't pay a dime for it. Last Auburn I accidentally got somehow, I gave away; and it was a high-perf one (had more clutch springs than that stock one), and 3-series besides. Worth exactly ZERO to me. That one is worth even less. I guess you'd have to pay me to take it.
Keep looking.

Thanks for the quality responses - the provided info will enable me to make a great decision when time to purchase....as for this unit, I think I'll pass and wait for another rear.
