1987 IROC-Z camaro rough ride

My camaro has been riding rough and had some bad vibrations. The vibrations start when you hit about 55. This is the off season for my car and i would like to do most of the work myself to learn the ins and outs. But I also know some stuff i cannot do, and will have done. Im going to replace the shocks and struts. Shocks are easy to replace, and i think i will get ones you can pump up but not sure, any suggestions?

Also i do not have any equipment to change struts and thinkin i might have them done. Is there a way to do it myself? I will have the car realigned and the front end serviced. The front end can prolly use alot of work and money. What can i do?

Thank You

Welcome to TGO. If you feel you have a lot to learn, you might start by perusing the stickies at the top of the page, then asking specific question as they come up. Also, since there aren't many questions that haven't been asked and answered on site, a search is always a good idea.

Best of luck on your project.

could simply be a bent or imbalanced tire, or a tire with a broken belt. If the shocks and struts are old, new ones would be a good idea anyway.

Struts really aren't that hard. What is it, take the tire off and then it's two bolts and a nut? I did mine in a couple of hours last year, and I didn't have any special tools, nor did I have to apply much skill.

To be honest, I think the rear shocks were more difficult. And that was only because I had trouble stuffing the carpet back behind the seat after I got done.

you may have lost as wheel weight if it had them. Some installers put them on the inside(where they should be) so they don't damage the wheel. If you're tires are good, get them balanced by a good shop.
