Passenger Rear Tire, Peeling?

Passenger Rear Tire, Peeling?
My passenger rear tire, when I go over large dips, to where it causes the rear to compress, catches my fender or something, and is cutting rubber off my tire.
Funny thing is, it never does it on the driver side. I am wondering if I have a failed shock or what...
Thanks

Re: Passenger Rear Tire, Peeling?
How to test?
I did the push down on the car test, and both sides seem to require the same effort to contract. Strange.
Is there something I can put in between the spring to prevent it from compressing too low (adjustable)?
Thanks

Is this stock suspension? Have you installed a 4th gen rear? Lowering springs?
I'd also take a look at the panhard bar, and make sure it's not bent - it centers the rear end, and if it's bent might make the rear off center, and thus the tire is catching the fender lip

All stock, panhard looks good.
But as you know, this is a dependent suspension setup, so I suspect that the driver side is dropping, causing the passenger side to raise.

Re: Passenger Rear Tire, Peeling?
Is the axle centered? If it is lowered or raised & a stock PHB, most likely it is offset to some degree. Even at stock height, I have seen them offset.
And Adjustable PHB will fix that.
Are the wheels the same? Sure? Not like a front wheel on one side & a rear wheel on the other? Fronts will fit the rear, but set out a little further & could cause the rubbing. Front wheels look deeper than the rears, due to the different offset.

What really? I didn't know that. I thought all 4 stock wheels are identical in a third gen. So are you not supposed to rotate tires front to back then?

Tire rotation with Camaro wheels marked "front & rear" CANNOT be rotated . The tires have to be removed from the wheel for the roation and the wheels stay in the same position.

Re: Passenger Rear Tire, Peeling?
And this only applies to the 16" wheels, not the 15" wheels.
If a person has 16" wheels & gets 2 extra front wheels to run, then they can do the standard tire rotation without having to have the tires dismounted from the wheels, swapped, remounted & rebalanced.
And there is the case that if you have 1LE brakes up front, the rear wheels will fit & clear on the front OR you can buy a set of those OEM slip-on rear wheel spacers to use on the front, then the rears will fit the front & then you can put rears on the front.

Re: Passenger Rear Tire, Peeling?
I apologize, I should have stated I do not have a stock tire/rim setup. I have 2000 camaro ss rims, with 255/40ZR17 on the front, and 275/40ZR17 on the rear.
I did notice the lip inside the fender towards the top is bent down just a tad only on the passenger side. Perhaps that's the reason? I'll see if I can get pictures today.
Here's a picture of the rims

Re: Passenger Rear Tire, Peeling?
sounds like you need shocks. your ride height looks high enough that the tires should never be hitting the fenders.

Re: Passenger Rear Tire, Peeling?
How can I test to see if I need new ones? That was one of my guesses at first, but I omitted it from here to see if anyone else came to that same conclusion.
I thought if you push on the car and let go right away, and the car keeps bouncing, then you need new ones. Not to mention, my car doesn't continue to bounce while driving.
