scored 02 ls1 complete rear end for 250
so i got a 2002 ls1 rear end out of a z28 for 250... i has professionaly installed 3.73 gears..... i was wondering what all do i need to put this into my gta... my car is a 88 gta and i have a nine bolt that has 170,000 plus miles on it and its on its way out ... i dont want to stick with the 9 ninebolt because parts are so hard to come by and its expensive to repair...

remove 9 bolt, install 10 bolt. pretty straight forward. the parking brake will require modification or custom cables to function, ebmiller has them and so does hawks. about 100 bux.
brake flex line should hook right to the existing body line.
and im sure you know its wider, so the wheels will move out 1.5" or so

thanks a bunch... are you talking about the emergency brake.... couldnt i just do away with it... i never really use the e brake anyway.... and are there any advantages of the 02 ls1 rear end over my nine bolt rear end... also do you think that the 373 rear end would be good for the FIRST TPI intake.....

9 bolts are supposed to be stronger, by a little.
you can do away with the parking brake, but you wont pass inspection without one, and its a good thing to have anyway.
3:73 is a bit much for a stock tpi engine, and for most street cars in my opinion. i have 3:70's in my 86 and wish i had something numerically lower. first gear is a bit short

Re: scored 02 ls1 complete rear end for 250
well this rear end has WAY less miles than my nine bolt and plus my rear is whining and starting to make noise..... plus the ls1 has much better brakes than mine..... and for 250 i couldnt pass it up.... my engine and suspension is far from stock..... i have a forged 355 block, gm hotcam, worked over l98 heads, built 700r4 with a corvette stall and a FIRST TPI intake which is much better than any aftermarket tpi system out the box... i really dont go on the highway much and i dont plan on this car being my daliy driver much longer...

Browse those... but its a straight bolt on.
9 bolt is suppose to be stronger, but my 9 bolt broke behind a high 13 second bolt on L98 with a lousy 1.79 60 foot.....but it had alot of miles on it....
my first 4th gen 10 bolt has seen 500+ whp nitrous launches into the 1.41-1.45 60 foot zone, ALOT of 10-11 second passes, then moved onto 650whp + from twin turbos and finally cracked a worm gear that I think had more to do with sliding sideways and letting off the gas to lock up the rear again than pure power. My second 4th gen 10 bolt i'm on now with 9 second slips and 1.49 60 foot best so far with the turbo setup. Cant bust it. Not sure why but I think the zexel torsen diffs in the late 4th gen models are better posi's.

naw, i dont think so. 3.42 would be better compromise for street/strip but nothing wrong with 3.73's with a high flowing TPI

Re: scored 02 ls1 complete rear end for 250
i was afraid that it might be too much but i feel that it will be a great combo now that i went back down to a corvette stall.... my nine bolt is about gone and its whining and making clunking noises.... also the fact that it has way less miles is a plus... i have seen plenty of ls1's put down big numbers with stock rear ends....
