Vibration from lowering??

so i was just thinking, i have this vibration in my car when i first start it up and when its cold from a stop.

ive recently dropped my car substantially and was thinking...could that have caused the rear end to shift and throw the driveshaft off?

Re: Vibration from lowering??

yes it would've. your tires should be noticeably off too (driver side sticks out further then pass)

Re: Vibration from lowering??

also if its lowered too much you most lilkely messed up your pinion angle. A 1 inch drop is good without buying other parts... any lower than that then you start causing problem... it puts more stress on your driveshaft and u joints because they are not at the angle that they were at anymore.... you need aftermarket torque arm, adjustable panhard bar lowercontrol arm relocation brackets to fix those issues...

Re: Vibration from lowering??

wow three inches.... are you sure your not on your bumpstops... that is REALLY low.. i bet anything feels harsh riding that low... i bet ur riding on your bumpstops..they are on the front a arms and there are some at the rear i would check them out to see if anything is hitting them... yea in that case your pinion angle is way off....

Re: Vibration from lowering??

not really lcarbs just put back your lower control arm angle back to level where it should be.. when you lower the car you are changing the lower control arm angle allowing the rear mounting point to sit higher than the front. that will cause wheel hop and traction loss.

you want your front mounting point and rear mounting point to be about even with each other for traction... to fix pinion angle you need an adjustable torque arm with a pinion angle finder...

Re: Vibration from lowering??

here is part of a sticky in the suspension section about lowering

1. Lowering Springs
Lowering springs are by far the most popular method used to lower a car. Springs are easy to come by, and are relatively inexpensive and easy to install. The downside of lowering springs is that they can put the a-arms in a position similar to that of loaded/compressed suspension, which often yields negative camber (depending on how low you go), causing premature front tire wear and handling problems. When lowering, there are several other suspension components that you will need; adjustable panhard bar, LCA relocation brackets, and an adjustable torque arm. An adjustable panhard bar is a must and will allow you to keep the rear axle centered after lowering, as the stock panhard bar is not adjustable. Lower control arm (LCA) relocation brackets will give the LCAs the proper angle after lowering (which moves the axle up). An adjustable torque arm will allow you to adjust the pinon angle, which will change with lowering. There is a hidden cost with associated with lowering, but these parts will help ensure that your car still handles well. Lowering springs are installed just like new springs...

Re: Vibration from lowering??

my 2 cents prolly wont amount to anythng but since u lowered ur car u changed the angle btween the transmission drive shaft and pinionwhen i slipped a 700r4 in mine the same thing happened i was left with a horrid vib this may sound stupid but all i did to fix the vib was take a 1 inch tall block of wood drilled my tranny mount hole where it connects to the crossmember n basically jacked up the rear of the tranny by 1 inch tht solved my vib prob smooth as a kitty whisker now ..... on to the pos qjet ...damn
