Front End Rebuild Kit for a RHD (Australian) IROC
Hi,
I have a 1988 Camaro that was converted by Corvette Clinic in Qld.
I'm keen to rebuild the front end while doing other work and am wondering which front end parts would be original Camaro parts, and which ones would have been replaced with Holden parts for the RHD conversion?
The front end rebuild kits include:
Inner tie rod ends
Outer tie rod ends
Idler arm
Lower ball joints
Centre control arm.
I guess the steering/Pitman arm comes from a Holden HQ or similar, but what other parts?
I have bought BMR subframe connectors, adjustable panhard bar, lower control arms etc and am about to buy a set of Eibach Pro-kit lowered springs. I want something that handles and drives well.

My guess is the inner and outer tie rods, ball joints, and center link are the same. The idler arm and pitman arm would be the ones in question.

The Camaro suspension E.g. Lower A arms, certainly looks like the same as a HQ series Holden.
I would have thought the idler arm would be Camaro, but thinking about it, if the steering box was switched they must have out in a new mount for the Idler arm. I guess this means a HQ Idler arm too.

That is my exact thinking. Good luck with it, I would love to see pictures when you get ready to put it together.

I'll have to check if the steering components have part numbers.
It's possible that everything between the outer tie rod ends are HQ Holden parts.
As these cars are pretty old and not worth as much now, RHD conversions are now very rare. A good conversion might cost $15,000 and after the RHD conversion the whole car would be worth $10,000.

I've been told WB steering boxes are better because they have a variable ratio.
Never would have guessed the utes had a different model of steering box though.
Maybe they have a quicker steering ratio or are stronger.
I saw one conversion posting that said the original Camaro steering box could be remounted on the other side, but I can;t see how this would be done.
Any idea if Holden parts were used for the Idler arm and centre control bar?
