Springs/ Spring Rates

Looking at new coil springs for my 85 T/A, and I think I've found what I want for spring rates (~750 in/lb in front and ~150 in/lb rear). Looking at the MOOG coil spring datasheet, and one of the questions that I'm not sure of is, how close to stock inner diameter do I need to be, so that there aren't any problems with fitment into the spring pockets.

By referencing Summit's "stock height replacement springs" with the MOOG data, the fronts should be 4.085" id, and the rear should be 4.300" id. Right now I'm looking at 5665 for the front, but I'd like to lose an inch or so off of the stock ride height. Never tried cutting springs, so I'm not sure that I'm comfortable with trying that, but if you guys say it's not to bad, I guess I can give it a go, after I check they way they sit stock. For the rears, I'm looking at a set of 6337, as is. Looking at their data sheet, it looks like they will drop the rear ~1 inch, but will be just enough stiffer then stock to change the feel. Any thoughts, or experience, on the use of those two together? The car never really sees any track use, and is generally just a DD, but I'd like to enjoy it a little more.

The shocks/struts are fairly new, but they were Monroe's because money was tight. They will probably get replaced when funding allows, springs need done sooner. I've found that I have atleast one broken spring in the front, and figure that if I've got to do them, I'll do them all at once.

If anyone needs the MOOG datasheet, I found it here:

Re: Springs/ Spring Rates

Hey nomind. Those two part numbers are a popular combination. It is a good idea to try them first to see if you're happy with the stance. To cut, if you must, use a 4-1/2" grinder and a slicing wheel (or muffler tool or whatever) to cut just a little bit off the non-pigtail end. It's better to cut a few times and check each time.

Let me know how you make out.

Re: Springs/ Spring Rates

I'm guessing you mean 5662 or 5664 for front springs.......5665 are rear springs. Completely different looking size and spring rate than the 5662 or 5664.

Re: Springs/ Spring Rates

You are correct, 5662 are the one's that I meant. 5665s were on the top of my list as stock replacements for reference.
