Spohn Performance 3rd Gen K-member Issues
I'm in the middle of an install of the Spohn k-member on a 1984 Trans Am and I have to say this has been the worst piece of **** I've seen in awhile. First the motor mount pads didn't line up properly. E-mailed Spohn and they told me it was because I'm using aftermarket motor mounts. I then explained that I was using factory shells with Energy Suspension internals. They then said the factory bolts were too big. I then explained that the factory bolts were a smaller diameter then what they sent. Never heard back from them. I managed to get the motor mount pads to line up after drilling the k-member holes slightly larger. I then hooked up the steering and found that the tie rods would bind on the k-member when turning the wheel. Not to mention they would hit the k-member if the a-arms weren't supported with a jack to bring them up to ride height. I e-mailed them a week ago and have yet to hear back on this issue. All I can say is spend your money elsewhere. Spohn k-members are crap and the customer service is also.

Yeah, unfortunatly there have been a lot of people .here recently with major.problems with that k and a arm setup. Your not alone, but that's not much consolation.

I also found that the sway bar end links don't line up with the a-arm mount unless you use a Spohn sway bar. The mounting point on their a-arm is set at a different angle then what's on the factory a-arm so the end link bushings get pushed to one side when tightening. In order to use the k-member, I'm going to have to use a shorter pitman arm and idler arm. Then I'll have to change the stops in the steering box to compensate for the shorter arms so I don't lose my turn radius.
What really bothers me is their arrogance in assuming that any issues are automatically related to something I've done and not themselves. I've had good results with BMR and should have stuck with them for this project.
