I want to run Outer and Inner SFC like a few members are doing on this board. Just wondering what Alston pieces would be best used with these. I'm hoping it is the weld in ones because they are significantly cheaper. Thanks for the help.

Re: Which Alston SFC with UMI
We have seen a lot of customers use our SFC's with the Alston SFC's and they fit and worked well with no interference.

I hope that helps,
Ryan

get the alstons bolt in versions and then weld them... the bolt on versions have more meat than the weld in versions.....

Get the bolt-ins. The TDS site is down so I can't compare the prices.

I don't think those weld-in versions you linked to will fit a 3rd gen anyways.

Re: Which Alston SFC with UMI
No offence to UMI, I bought Spohn to go with my Alston bolt ins. I was test fitting them all today to see what will need to change. The fuel lines on the drivers side of the tunnel will need tweeked and one clamp moved. My exhaust, which seems to have been replaced at some point, will need moved as well, which needs to happen anyway since it hits the pinch joint in the body. The perimeter connectors attach to the outside of where the LCAs mount and the Alstons to a seperate part of the subframe that goes up over the tank. There will be no interference of one with the other, not even close. I don't know what those weld ins you linked to fit but the bolt ins are correct for the Fbody.

Thanks a lot for all the help. Does Doug Herbert still sell the Alston SFC? From searching and reading previous posts I found out he had the best price for them. I just can't seem to find it.

I just scored a brand new set of Alston bolt on subframes, still in the box for $140 total! Way stoked, found them on a local for sale board. Going to bolt them on then have them welded

is this your first set of sfc's for your car or do you already have the outer type installed... i would get both sets... much more improvement than one...

Re: Which Alston SFC with UMI
just curious. How much ground clearance is taken by the alston SFCs?

Re: Which Alston SFC with UMI
The tubing is 1.75" in diameter and tucks up pretty tight to the floorpan, especially if you grind off the lip of the heat sheild where thee Alston tubing tucks above the cat. However, while some call it a loss of ground clearance, it is in reality gaining protection for your 3" intermediate pipe. My Camaro has Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs. So when I hear the underside scraping on a large speed bump in a parking lot I grin with the satisfaction of knowing I scraped a bit of paint off my Alston SFC's and they did their job protecting my I-pipe. The Alston SFC's are made from the same material they use to construct their roll-cages, so the SFC's don't dent when they rub on a speed bump. Next time the car is on a lift I can rattle-can paint off those scrapes. I couldn't take the dent out of the I-pipe so easily.

Re: Which Alston SFC with UMI
I put the Alston's(from Lon OF COURSE) in my Z28. Spent a few hours with my exhaust guy installing them. Got them high and tight. They are a little lowers than the exhaust, but that just protects my exhaust. Weld in or boot in- once they are welded in, the little extra material doesn't matter much... Use the bolt holes as spot weld locations for extra attachment points.
