Can't find a replacement pitman arm.
Can't find a replacement pitman arm.
Hello. I have a 91' trans am vert and and having my mechanic fix the lose steering. He tried to order the pitman arm, but couldn't find it from any of his sources. After much searching online, I found a place and ordered it, only to find out a couple days later they don't actually carry it. Does anyone have any source for getting one? Baffling to me that it's so hard to find. I searched through a bunch of threads and could not find anything.
Thanks!

Since the pitman is a non-wear item, there's no need for replacement unless it's been damaged in some way.

i find it very hard to believe that there is an issue with the pitman arm, its just a hunk of iron with no moving parts. Thats the part attached to the steering box.
the idler arm is the piece bolted to the frame on the passengerside, that is a wear part and may be what you are looking for.

Re: Can't find a replacement pitman arm.
Most likely your "mechanic" is seeing looseness where the Pitman arm and the center link meet.
In some vehicles, that joint would be part of the Pitman arm.
But not these... as stated, the P arm is just a slab of metal. In these cars, the joint is part of the center link.
The reason you can't find a P arm is because you don't need one in the first place.
It's a sign from Above, declaring to you the Meijer's / Wal-mart type principle: "if we don't have it, you don't need it".
