New Lower Ball Joints Are Popping!

I have a 1992 Camaro RS, Just replaced the lower ball joints and after replacing them the car drove sloppy, had a lot of play in the steering, vibrated at high speeds, and pops when turning. After further inspection I noticed the wheel was able to be manually moved left and right, giving me the impression the Outer Tie Rod Ends were bad, replaced them and now tires have no play at all, everything is stiff and tight but Lower Ball Joints are still popping and the car still vibrates and shakes at high speed, also the steering will not correct its self after a turn, steering seems very tight and will now respond properly. I have run out of options, I am considering replacing Inner Tie Rod Ends, all Bushings, and Struts but quite frankly I am determined that the popping is coming from the Ball Joints, I myself personally installed them and I know for a fact that I installed them right. I am at a complete loss so any advice will be very much appreciated!

I don't know for sure, but one time a friend of mine had the same problem with the steering not correcting itself. I am not saying this is your problem, but he had the ball joint nuts way to tight.

grease the ball joints?

since you changed the tie rod ends, you may need an alignment

Re: New Lower Ball Joints Are Popping!

Need to grease them with the load off the ball joint. I've learned to grease them immediately after being pressed into the arm (I do them on the car).

Need to jack up the car under the a-arm. This is to take the pressure off of the joint. Then grease them. Be sure to put a jack stand under the frame rail for safety, but don't lower the car onto it. Need to keep the pressure off the ball joint when greasing it.

RBob.

Re: New Lower Ball Joints Are Popping!

Thanks for all the advice, ball joints castle nuts were tightened to factory specifications and I double checked them so I'm sure about that, as far as grease goes I greased them before installed and after thanks for the good advice on that not many people would think to do that, they come greased from the manufacturer but not nearly enough so I'm always sure to heavy grease everything that is required before and after installation. I just happened to be examining my struts and noticed that my passenger side strut tower was not in alignment with my original mark, I loosened the strut tower, relieved pressure with a jack and set it back in alignment with the original mark and now the joints do not pop nearly as much, also the steering has corrected its self as well. I am going to go and get a re-alignment and I am assuming that this will fix everything. I will update this thread afterwards to let everyone know my results.
