Found a deal on a trans am rear with discs and 3.42s...
So I was browsing craigslist this morning and found a deal on a rear axle from an 87' trans am. It has rear discs, and the guy who has the axle said its ratio is "about 3.50" so im guessing it is a 3.42.
according to this thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...nvert-pre.html
I can put the post 89' better calipers and rotors on this axle without other modification? Looks like I will need new e brake cables as well.
Any advice on things to look for on this axle, to make sure im not getting into a big project? I'm intending to do something about posi, and getting fresh brake components would be prudent anyhow. My car is a 1991 T/A with a 3.08 drum rear.
Thanks in advance.

It's a 9 bolt and I think the 3.42s are more rare than the .27s, I have 1 car with that ratio, it has an RPO code for perf. axle (GW7??? not sure what it was, maybe G92??)
Anyway, 9 bolts have 28 spline axles.

Heres the link to ad. It looks like a 10 bolt with the old iron rear discs... But hard to tell from the pix.

ratio by turning axle and counting yoke rotations

So this guy is doing a "Krylon rebuild" on this thing, and can't even bother to pull the cover and LOOK AT THE PARTS?
How much you wanna bet that if you bought it, took it home, and popped the cover, that right before your very eyes, it would MAGICALLY MORPH into a 2.73?
Since they're hiding the REAL ratio, call him/her and ask why they're using that lame excuse about "spin the bottle and come up with whatever number they like" to maintain their plausible deniability ("I never said that's what it really was, all I did was talk about this weenie mickey-mouse inaccurate thing that everybody knows can't be trusted") instead of TELLING THE TRUTH.
