OPINION?? TUBULAR OR BOX??

Mm okay I know its been covered.....subframe connectors...lower control arms...etc....this is mostly for SFC. . . I know geometrically the circle is the strongest. And the square. Fails in comparison to the circle. So question really is. What's ya'lls opinions on the two? Ride feel, how they hide, do they scrape, what do people prefer? Tubular or box????

Re: OPINION?? TUBULAR OR BOX??

myself I'm running 1in boxed custom inner and outer subframe connectors, and for the inners I sectioned the tube and welded it back together offset so the sides are double thickness and just as strong (if not stronger). For ease of work you can get the square tube to follow the belly pan much better due to sectioning bending and welding back together. My car is a 91 vert with abotu 500flywheel hp's I notice minimal body flex on hard launches and a lot of the creeks dissapeared.

Only downside of it is that the way I built my outers reduced a bit the area I have to play with with the stock exhaust routing where its tight. I get some rubbing with my custom 3in y-pipe due to building up on the factory connectors.

Re: OPINION?? TUBULAR OR BOX??

Choose the setup with the best compatibility to future mods. For example, if you ever want a BMR "track pack" then it will be easier to integrate with square tube. There are more examples out there.

The best answer is to plan ahead and do not focus exclusively on what shape optimizes strength by weight.

Re: OPINION?? TUBULAR OR BOX??

Tampa, FL? I'm in Brandon! I have square tubing sfc's that I built. They're pretty well hidden. I plan to weld the body pinch weld to them at some point. Haven't bottomed out on anything with them (exhaust, yes. sfcs, no). The car's not drivable right now but I've driven it a lot with them on the car.

Re: OPINION?? TUBULAR OR BOX??

So far my 1987 s.c has positive traction from eaton. Upgrade to 28 spline axles. With a set of 3.73. gears and it has a 700r4 stock but with an 1800 stall. I don't know about how your 3.73 runs but I'm cookin 4000 rpm or higher at 75mph. ...somethin' ain't right there. As far as suspension goes I have kyb agx adjustable shocks.theres new rear lower control arms and rear lower control arm relocation brackets welded in and a tubular panhard bar. I just need some sfc and ill be working on interior next. It has its god days and bad days. 1/8 mile quickest time was 10.01 slowest was 11.23 so there's some work to be done. Its mostly a street car but id like to have mid 9

Re: OPINION?? TUBULAR OR BOX??

yeah, sounds like you're not shifting into OD and/or the tranny is slipping. with 3.73s and 26" tall rear tires (235/60/15), at 70mph I think its runnin about 2700 rpms. IIRC. Are you sure your tach is right? mine is way off now. it says it idles at like 4k or something...I know better than that. 1/8 mile, you goin to Lakeland or St Pete.?

Re: OPINION?? TUBULAR OR BOX??

My rear tires are 255/60R15. I'm not entirely sure. I know my speedometer is about 15 mph off when I stepped up from the 2.73. Tac says I still idle at 900-1000. It just screams like a monster going down 275 it shifts through all the gears but it shifts into OD at 3000 and only drops to about 2750 and rapidly climbs to 4000 or 4500. Just gives me a headeache trying to figure it out. I know I have a 1 to 1 od though
