Hey so I'm getting koni struts and shocks and I don't know if I should replace the rear springs or keep the stock ones. And do I need the isolaters. So the springs aren't metal to metal.
Are there springs in the front???

And the coil springs in rear can u upgrade these to better ones?

There are coil springs on all 4 corners. You can reuse your old isolators, buy new ones, or use heater hose to insulate the spring. To recommend some springs we'd have to know your preferences and uses for the car. Do you want the car to ride stiffer or softer? Are you happy with the ride height, or would you like it higher or lower? Do you prefer the muscle car "raked" look, or a more modern "level" stance? Do you autox or drift? Drag? Drive fast on twisty back roads?

 

I just purchased konis strut shocks in front and back yellow. My car is a daily driver not a racer. Just want a standard stance I have 16x8 double line irocs.

I order the some rear springs from summit for 49$ as well but not sure if I should use my stock ones or the new ones. I can always return them if I don't need.

 

I want to get new isolators though in front and rear just to be sure

I'm uncertain if the rears are currently available. As you can see the front and rears are much different.

Those Summit rear springs are factory replacements. I don't think they'll make a big difference unless your stock springs have a lot of miles on them and are sagging- then those will restore the car to the proper ride height for the stock spring rates and make it ride and handle better... roll a bit less and probably have less wheel hop. When I put my Koni's on I kept my stock springs as they really haven't sagged much at all. It drove and handled great with that setup but was too soft and sat too high for my taste.

Generally people only change springs on these cars to change the ride height or improve handling. If you're happy with the ride, height, and amount of roll and weight transfer you already have and your springs aren't rusty or corroded, you can re-use them just fine. They aren't wear items like struts are- you just have to make sure they aren't corroded/ rusty and that your car is at the optimal height for the given spring rate for the suspension to do its job.

 

I did the rear springs at the same time as the rear Konis went in. Might as well change them out. They're going to fall out when you change the rear shocks anyways.

For the fronts, I did the Konis first and then did the front springs much later. For the front, it's a totally different deal during install. Changing the front springs is tricky. The car did feel noticeably better with new front springs.

I went with the Moog 5662 (front) and 5665 (rear) springs. Re-used the original isolators.

Even on a low mileage car, our original springs are a minimum 21 years old if not older. Ride height went up anywhere from 0.5 to 1.5 inches depending on the corner (different sides of the car sag more over time)

I can't find any rears so my only option is to use a hose???
And u use a hose on the top or the bottom of the rear springs??

 

Yep, they are the same. Nothing special, just a piece of rubber to separate the metal from the metal so the $5 ones will do just fine. For the rears you could try and find some from a junkyard or re-use the stock ones if they aren't too bad. The heater hose will work fine to insulate them, but it will make the back sit a little lower (the car's overall stance will be more level) since the stock rear insulators are pretty thick, so you may want to use a small spring spacer as well with the appropriate thickness to keep the factory rake, though if the front springs are fatigued enough the car may end up having some rake anyway with new coils AND Koni's which will raise the rear up a bit. If your factory insulators are still in tact you can just tape them onto the new springs and keep rolling, if not try the junkyard or see what spring spacers or insulators are out there that can be used instead or just do the heater hose mod.

 

The isolators are so far up in the spring pocket, I suspect that they'll be in very good condition and won't really require replacement.

Like the OE isolators, the hose, which will lower the car approx. 1/2", will be placed on top of the spring.

Look before you leap. Get under the car and take a peek at things.

Just a daily driver want a comfortable ride. So I got new rear springs, and konis front and back.

Just need top and bottom isolators on the front and back do local auto parts store carry these?

 

The isolators are only located on top of the springs. Again, climbing under the car and taking a peek will answer many questions.
