Bump Steer kit with 4th gen SS/ZR1 rims

So upon doing some research i see some people are having troubles fitting bump steer kits with Ronal 17's (17x9.5 5.5BS).

Anyone with ZR1(17x9.5 50mm offset or 6.97BS) rims and adapters wanna chime in? I'm running C5 Z06 brakes up front. So my track width is already 0.300 wider per wheel. Which would be the same as 1LE.

if I did the math right I think a 1.75 Adapter would put me around 5.25BS on the rims. Would that clear the tie rod/bump steer?

I don't want the tires sticking out of the fender but would like to get a bump steer kit since the car will have GC weight jacks

Thanks for any help.

Jay

Re: Bump Steer kit with 4th gen SS/ZR1 rims

My car cleared them with factory 15s and 1.5 spacer.

Re: Bump Steer kit with 4th gen SS/ZR1 rims

Im more worried about pushing the tire out too far....factory 15's are a lot narrower than a 275 tire.

I think if you have 17s it should probly clear it because the bump steer kit does not stick out that far under the spindle. Even if you need to space it the tires won't stick out that far. I have 19s right now with 275s. Wheels are close to factory back spacing and I have 1.5 spacers and they're still with in fenders.

Re: Bump Steer kit with 4th gen SS/ZR1 rims

I have LS1 front brakes, 10 spoke SS wheels and a 1.5" adapter and could not run my bump steer kit. It hit the wheel.

Here's my wheels. They're 19s but I have 275s on them, rim is 9 inches wide, and has 5.75 inches of back spacing. Between my spacers and hubs I havr about the equivalent of. 1.75 spacer. Tires are in about a half inch from outside edge of fender lip

Awesome thanks for some input from both.

Drkhrse89 Do you think they woulda cleared with 1.75's? any pics of how your rims sit to the fender? I just got my zr1 rims today but am awaiting shocks before I can get my spindles back on.

Re: Bump Steer kit with 4th gen SS/ZR1 rims

That is a really good question. I am going to go out on a limb and say they would not have fit. It was a little while ago, but I remember mounting the rim and only seeing a few threads showing from the stud. So, if they did it would have been really close. A 2" spacer would work, but then the wheel would sit under the fender lip and would have contacted the fender on every bump.

Here is the best picture of how my wheels sit in the fender. Right now it is in the air with no engine, so I can take any new ones for you.

A little different perspective. The wheel does tuck under the fender lip, they are not rolled. As I said LS1 brakes, 1.5" adapter, factory GM 10 spoke wheels.

Awesome! Thanks a lot. So it looks like 1.75 is the biggest I wanna go. 1.5 pretty well looks perfect.

Re: Bump Steer kit with 4th gen SS/ZR1 rims

Personally I love the 1.5". I have no rubbing whatsoever and if I rolled my fender lip, and if the money fairy stopped by, I could pick up an airbag suspension and have a nice tucked look.

That's not to say a 1.75" wouldn't look as good. It would just put the wheel a little closer to the lip.

Re: Bump Steer kit with 4th gen SS/ZR1 rims

Im gonna bump this up since I have been driving the car a decent amount the last month. The bump steer is crazy. I think I am around 25.5-26" fender height so the car is pretty low. I tried a bumpsteer kit my buddy had from his Monte SS and it wasnt even close.

One of the roads I always take home has lots of patched areas, the car is all over the place. Glad I only drive it on nice sunny days!

Any other options?
