Currie 9 inch Ford housing and lowering springs

I did do some searches and came across a little bit of info regarding the title of the post but still have some questions. I currently have a Currie built 9 inch Ford rear end installed in my camaro. I also have Eibach Pro Kit springs in the car. I have since noticed that the rear end is extremely stiff, almost as if there was no suspension movement. I understand that the axle housing portion of the Ford 9in is about 3in compared to the smaller factory GM axle housing (2 1/4 in maybe ??) and that moves the lower spring perch up closer towards the chassis of the vehicle. Normally, with the OEM rear end hanging down all the way, I can slightly compress the pro kit springs to install/remove them, but with the 9in ford in there I could barely do it. Due to this I removed the upper rubber spacer and did the heater hose mod but it still requires a herculean effort. I am now contemplating going with the Eibach Sportline springs as they should be shorter than the pro kit. Just wanted to know if anyone else ran into this issue...

Also, I noticed that at about 1/2 suspension travel, ie. hitting a hard bump with the rear, there would a loud metallic bang. Come to find out that the torque arm bracket that is part of the rear end is hitting the rearmost portion of the transmission tunnel and has since punctured a hole in the sheetmetal. I read that this happened to someone else in an older post. Seeing as how the interior is totally removed, I may condsider having my body shop locate the areas of transmission tunnel contact and first, cut them out, then fabricate new metal that will allow extra clearance for the suspension travel. Anyone else have to do this? Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

Mine was a 40 min bolt in. No probs ..I use ladder bars. So I dont have the TQ arm parts on the housing.. but my stock springs sit in the right spot. Every thing was like it was before the 9".. 29x13x15 tires

Now adding rear coil overs . And alum center section.

Yep....my torque arm mount in the rear did the same thing. The 9" is HUGE compared to the original 10 bolt.

I contemplated cutting out the area and welding in an upside down bowl or something...it hit pretty hard a couple of times when I went over some RR tracks, but it dented it instead of poking a hole through. It kinda clearanced itself...

I'm sure if I hit a big bump with people in the back seat, it would bang again. So AFAIC, back seat is just for looks.

Had no issues putting my sport lines in... Did you take out the lower shock bolts? That should drop it down plenty..

BTW...if you lower it further with the Sportlines, it'll put the TQ arm even closer to the floorboard...again, mine pretty much clearanced itself! Lol.

Cutting it out and bowl or something would be the right way to fix it....

Re: Currie 9 inch Ford housing and lowering springs

Thanks for the replies! I actually think that I am going to wait and see what happens with the bodywork first. After seeing the rear coilover kit that UMI released with the Viking springs I think that I might go the coilover route. Not to sidetrack the thread, but adding the rear coilovers should give me the ability to adjust the ride height and compression/rebound exactly where I want it. Only problem is...then I would want coilovers for the front. The next problem...UMI/Viking doesn't have a coilover kit for the front and I absolutely HATE mix matching components. So...may end up using the UMI rear coilover bracketry with QA1's, then get the Spohn Pro Touring front coilover conversion with the threaded QA1 double adjustable front struts and call it a day...Still not sure though, lol!
