Adding power steering
Adding power steering
The car in question isn't a Third-Gen but it does have the 151 cubic inch 4-banger that went into some Camaros, so maybe someone here can give me a little help. I'm adding power steering and don't have the mounting bracket for the power steering pump. The pump has four holes tapped 3/8-16 on the face and the two holes farther from the engine are about 5/16" higher than the two closer to the engine. The block has two tapped holes, one near the crankcase and the other near the head. I'm assuming the bracket is bolted to the lower hole and pivots around that bolt, with the belt tension being adjusted by a slotted bracket between the pump and the upper hole. The crankshaft pulley has two grooves, and the replacement water pump pulley and the power steering pulley also have two grooves. Is the power steering pump driven by two belts or just one?
I'm going to try local Chevy dealer to see if the bracket is still available - I doubt it - but if it isn't I'll have to go to Plan B, which is to fabricate something. If anyone has picture or sketches of the bracket and the installion, that would help.

Re: Adding power steering
Use a 77-86 Jeep CJ5 bracket. The 2.5 jeep motor is basically the same as the Iron Duke rwd block as well as the superduty4 blocks. The ultimate block is the KRP inline 4's just for the record. You happened to ask with the right person watching- I run a NASCAR truck team and know alittle about the old Iron dukes- we use a spec V8 in our division though. But back on topic, the bracket for those year Jeeps worked for both engines, the 2.5L inline 4 (151 CI) & the 4.2 V8 (304 CI). Happy hunting- check ebay
Re: Adding power steering
Thanks for the tip. My neighbor across the street and one of my co-workers are both into Jeeps and follow various Jeep websites. I'll check out those sites' "Buy & Sell" headings along with eBay and Craiglist. Something will show up eventually.
