Shock and Strut Recommendations
What do you guys recommend for shocks and struts? I have a feeling theyve never been done on my car since it bounces alot. I was thinking about spending the money for bilsteins. Any thoughts on whats better?
Re: Shock and Strut Recommendations
If your cheap then get kyb's. I've used them and I was not very impressed with them. They were better than that monroe & gabrial crap that autozone sells over the counter; but that doesn't say much does it?
Using both I prefer the Koni's now over bilstein only because they are adjustable. They both have good control and they both made a noticeable difference in braking/cornering (especially braking).
Hope this helps...

I work at autozone and bilsteins are offered and ive always heard good things about them. Im not cheap on my cars and being a classic and a sports car my 85 is going to be getting some expensive parts over time. Car has lots of axle hop to it at the moment so the springs need changing out also while im at it. I also cant seem to find any strut tower braces for a carb'd motor just tbi and injected.

I used Bilstein's on my 4th gens and an old M3; they were great. I use Koni's on my 3rd gen and on my mazda 3; they are great.

I recommend Koni's (use them myself), or bilstiens if your going for handling. If you want decent handling and will drag race the car i recommend the KYB AGX. My buddy uses them in his 01 Z28 and says they adjust well for both uses. I've heard tokico are a decent strut/shock too. I use KYB gas a just in my 69 camaro. they have a stiff compression valving to make them feel stiffer/performance. I like them but I don't recommend them if you get a really high spring rate.
Don't be intimidated by adjustable struts and shocks. Its very simple. Single adjustable like the konis and KYB AGX only adjust the rebound of the strut, not the compression. Also if you get konis search 3rdgen vs 4thgen rear shocks. they both work on our cars but 3rdgens are internally adjustable (harder to adjust) and mono tube which us USUALLY better. the 4thgen konis are externally adjustable (easier to adjust) and twin tube which isn't USUALLY as good as mono tube but Konis are good either way.

[I would do a search - a lot on this topic. Seriously I have owned both and right now I have Bilstein HD's and a pro-kit on my Iroc. Kicking myself that I didn't get the Koni's. They are way more performance oriented. I want to swap someone yellow's for my 5k mi HD's. Or am trying to see if I can get them revalved (Bilstein is real close to my work). I want my HD's to perform Like a Yellow on stiff. The stability and cornering with the Koni's is that much better IMHO.
