89 RS Front Valance bottoms out
89 RS Front Valance bottoms out
The front valance and bumper on my 89 RS 2.8 scrapes on the driveway entrance at the slightest provocation. I'm assuming the springs are still as stiff as they were when new. Is it the struts that allow this to happen?
If I replace them, and don't want to break the bank, which struts are recommended for slightly stiffer than OEM? Don't want to pay $250 a piece for this old underpowered beast, just want to be able to keep my bumper from getting more jacked than it already is.
Anyone can recommend some for this application?
Thanks,
Rickybobby

I got my struts through tpis.com. they custom valve them and rebuild them with good parts. 150 for a pair i think. Everyone here loves yellow kohns or what ever... Im sure they are nice but they are spendy. I went with tpic cause they are valved for cornering style driving and the more aggressive you get, the more they firm up. I love them IMO. Your springs are prob shot or may be broke. They DO wear out. Think of springs in a head. there is a spring manufacture that tells you how to check, cant remember there name. google how to tell when spring is shot. Eibach pro line springs IMO are good. Think a set costs around 200. here is a link to read about springs. Remember you have the internet at your finger tips. dont be afraid to do some looking around!! good luck man.

Ordered OEM level KYB struts and shocks from Partsgeek. KYB Excel-G. We'll see if this fixes the issue and if not, will try replacing springs next. Either way, the front struts look original. 140K miles. Probably deserves a replacement set.

Re: 89 RS Front Valance bottoms out
So at this point, if you take the entrance into the drive way ( dip )at an slight angle it still rubs ?
Any and all such dips like the ones pulling into a residence or store, etc. should be taken at a angle or you will rub.
That's just the nature of the "beast." In other words we all have that problem to one degree or the other.
Sometimes it will rub no mater what you do or if there's no way to take it at an angle and that's why my
Daily Driver has a nice paint job except for the front of the front valance . ( I've fixed it over and over and over )
The KYB struts and shocks will be an improvement over the old so please let us know how it goes.
