Air Shocks........
Air Shocks........
I had my Camaro dropped 1 1/4 with H&R springs. It s a good drop, however due to my sound system in the rear, the rear tends to bottom out when going over a good bump, or when its full with a tank of gas. Ive wrote to a company that specialize in air shocks and say they have one for the camaro rear. Ive used air shocks in my truck and it works great...any opinions????

I don't really care for Air Shocks. Reason being is..... The shock mounts are NOT designed to support the weight of the car. Which is exactly what you are doing when you use air shocks to raise the rear end. Now, I will admit that it is not supporting the FULL weight of the car, but, they will place more of a load on the mounts than they were designed to handle.
I know that some folks have used them, and had no problems at all, but, I know of other folks that have torn the mounts right off the rear axle. (that was interesting........)
If you want to permanently raise the rearend, I think some coil spring spacers would be better. (and, cheaper......)
Have fun.

Shocks are not intended to change the hight of your car. They are merely meant to damp the frequency of osscilation created by your springs. Your springs are the device that should be determining your cars ride level. Shocks react based on the velocity they are compressed and extended. Spring react to the distance they are compressed. Air shocks will work if you are trying to manipulate the rate at which the rear of your car falls when you hit an extreme bump, but they have very little to no rebound damping, which will cause your car to unload coming out of hard corners. You might wnat to try some polyurethane bump stops, along with some monroe sensatrax shocks. If your wheels arent to big and your springs are not to soft this should help alot. If that doesn't fix the problem you are looking at some high quality progressive springs. Spring spacers are a gamble they may work but it is possible all you will do is increase your wheel hop on take off and the body roll your car will experince, not to mention if the springs are to soft and the shock are shot you will actually add to the velocity at which your car bottoms out.
