snap noise in front suspension

snap noise in front suspension
wondering if there is any kind of a common problem in a 87 variety trans am, where when you turn the wheel all the way to one side there is a pop, snap noise, sort of ruled out the center link, pitman, idler, tie rod ends as most was all replaced (except the tie rod ends) seems to be maybe in the steering gear? the car has very low miles less than 50,000.

Best thing to do is have someone turn the wheel left and right while you inspect all the moving parts looking and listening for your snap.. On mine it is the passenger side strut mount rubber that pops as it flips from one extreme angle to the next,, you need to have the caps off to see this, but if yours are oem, they may have cracked from age.. If by the steering gear inspect for cracks in the mounting area. install a wonder bar if not there to help avoid this in the future.

My car does this as well when making sharp low speed turns (i.e. parking, u-turns). I've isolated the sound to driver side strut assembly mount which are the originals (128,000 miles). I 'm leaning towards the Monroe mounts with KYB G-2 struts but I may spring the extra $40 for the AC Delco mounts from Rock Auto.

It's a good idea to install new mounts as the rubber isolators crack over time. Beware tho, you may still get the pop with new mounts as the way the rubber has to flip from one extreme to another on hard angles, As mine have and do on occasion.. Solid mounts such as from Founders, ect.. should solve this, but ride quality will be effected I would assume.. https://www.foundersperformance.com/...-strut-mounts/
