No, definitely not factory.
That's one of the same names we call that over here, so feel free to use it.
Air shocks don't really work on these cars... over the long term (and sometimes not so long) they punch the upper "mount" right out of the floor pan.

That doesn't look like the typical air shock setup, maybe the car has some kind of air.spring?
Could you take a picture of the rear springs under the car?

It's an air compressor for shocks or air bags.
Not "typical" maybe, but not exactly "rare" either... most people who put in air shocks do it on the cheeeeeeep, so there's usually only a Schrader valve, like a tire, to put compressed air in.
If that compressor is supplying air bags, that's a MUCH better way to raise its ride height, than air shocks. Although, still not as common-sensical as simply installing appropriate springs.
