Need Traction
running a 408 with vortecs etc..th350 with spohn conversion,,ie adjustable torque rod,, crossmember etc,, bilstein shocks and 255,60,15 BF TA/ tires.
3.42 eaton trutrac and running 13.22 @107mph.
i got good motor and tough gearbox,, 2500 stall.
Foot on the brake,,run engine up to 2000 then release brake and go sideways,,,give full throttle and change into 2nd at 4500 and its sideways again spinning tires.
tires set at 20lbs.
yes need M/T slicks commin next month when i get spare cash.
Prepared to also stiffen rear spring load another 20% and possible poly urathane spohn rear lower arms and pan rod.
driveshaft is set correct as spohn instructed with angle gauge.
I feel its all about rear suspension now and possibly run a 12.8
any info needed or previous experience greatly accepted.

What shocks are you using? Do you have control arm relocation brackets?

Re: Need Traction
i just bought a set of bilsteins from summit,,,stopped the wheelspin but for sone reason its back werse than ever,,,the rear springs were re made and 1 inch higher and 25% more stiffness and i may take the car to a few seasoned pro,s who run many pro cars and see what they recon..
i should have bought the kyb adjustable shocks with the **** you turn to stiffen.
i feel the rear is too soft still

Re: Need Traction
See how it behaves with the sticky tires (MT drag radial or ET street) before trying anything else. Those BFG ta radials are useless with the power you have.

Re: Need Traction
its not a hot rod but i will say its pretty dam good for an old motor and +060 oversize for years its going great...its encouraging to go a bit faster and them BFG T/A radials i have are brand new but i have had it spinning well into second and it wont stop unless you hit the brakes or you will lose it..
them M/T street et tires are pretty cheap here and i think it will be enough....
and instead of buying solid lower arms with poly bushes,,i will remove the lower arms,, fully weld up and plate up the open section in the botton and put some new poly bushes in,,,i can do this fir $60 not $190 like they sell for....
i can do it in a weekend and be at the track next wednesday night,,,,
they run top fuel cars there on weekends and i think the track is pretty ordinary for street meets during the week.
they were running 4 second cars there just 2 days earlier and the track was black from rubber from the start

Re: Need Traction
Maybe I missed it, do you have rear lower control arm relocation brackets? If so, (or even if not) what is the angle of the rear lower control arm?

Re: Need Traction
the arms will be welded up and braced and are stock locations as of now..
havent checked angles.
i will run it and if i can stop the wheelspin in 2nd gear i will be happy.
i think i need the whole rearend re setup like it should be,,,the stock setup is pretty ordinary.
i will concentrate on the rear end from hear,,the motor flys

Re: Need Traction
there are a few super stock racers locally that have been at it since the 1970,s and running real good cars..
they can have the car for a few days if my plan fails and while i still want a touring car,,, we may be able to go 1/2 way and not go into that 4 link thing.
this isnt a real hot rod but i feel i can run low 12,s with this engine gearbox and rear end work..
new motor in december from shafiroff

Re: Need Traction
You need to check the angle of the rear lower control arms. The body mount side of the control arm should be higher than the axle side. Any number greater than 0° and you will have wheel spin in any scenario. You want a negative angle if at all possible.
