installing Ball Joints on UMI A-arms

Re: installing Ball Joints on UMI A-arms
Final update for the thread. I had reached out to Ramey at UMI via email and exchanged a few emails. I was very surprised to hear UMI's suggestion that they just replace the A arms as it was more than I was asking. After looking up my original purchase record he had a new set in the mail for me. Received them and installed them without issue. He had the Ball joint cups fitted specifically for the Howe ball joints which I also verified myself. I took it to my friend's shop and we used his 25 ton Drake press. The interference fit between the ball joint and cup is a perfect 0.002". The joints popped out and went back in without issue. I have the stud that is 0.75" longer. The whole assembly installed just fine with their weight jacks that I had bought during their Black Friday 2017 sale. I haven't put the car on the ground yet (only have one side done) but I am happy with everything thus far and am looking forward to aligning everything and driving it. I had already thanked Ramey in an email but here is a public thank you:
Thank you Ramey and UMI for helping me out and correcting the issue. I will continue to purchase your products, I hear you'll have some new rear weight jacks out soon...

Nice to see this was resolved anyway. Are you also using the UMI K- member? Forgive my ignorance, but what's the benefit of having the longer balljoint stud?
I just ordered the Spohn set last night, so hopefully they work alright.

The front roll center is lower than the rear roll center. The extended ball joints allow you to lower the front end without moving the roll center much. You can also use the the stock or existing springs. There are are things involved in the equation though, this is just a bare minimum starting point to answer your question. A number of decent threads on here about the topic.

Thanks for the primer, I'll look into it. I'm pretty green when it comes to suspension stuff. Canceled my Spohn A-arms, given what I've heard about them. The UMI's will probably be my top pick now.
