Re: Welding Alston SFC
Most install prior to interior work as part of a full build, haven't seen many people add them to a finished car. One user did it but had aftermarket underlay.
I know the rear subframe is rather light. Wondering if anyone could share their install experience. Worst case I'll pull the carpet, but some peace of mind would be great

Pull the carpet if any welding on or near the floor pan happens

Alston's tie subframe not the floor. Weld away.

You can also sit in your car with a water spray bottle and spray the carpeting if you see and smoking.
But as was written earlier you can easily remove the seat, door sil trim pieces, then slip in a 2x2 or 2x4 to lift the carpeting and backing pad.

I just welding mine in about a month ago and I pulled all the seats and raised the carpet off the floor with some wood blocks in the welding areas. The floor definitely got hot. Especially where they connect to the frame by the transmission. I highly recommend it. Both front parts got hot enough that I ended up using a damp rag to help cool the floor.

Re: Welding Alston SFC
In October of 2017 I found out the hard way that welding on the underside of a car that has a full interior is bad advice. Thank God I keep a hose in the garage for washing cars or it would have been much worse. Heck I even took the precaution of soaking the entire carpet with water before welding and it still caught fire. If you don't want to remove the center console then at least remove the seats and sill plates and fold the carpet over the center console to the other side while you weld.
