Installing my new UMI caster/camber plates and I'm not sure if I should set my caster all the way back in the towers slots and use the UMI caster adjustment or should I set it somewhere else in the slots?
If I run both all the way back (positive caster) the strut (when compressed) hits the bottom of the tower - kinda makes me wonder why I bought caster/camber plates if I can't utilize their adjustment potential anyways?! What have you guys done to get around this limitation?
And, do you guys run the dust cover over the strut....it doesn't appear to fit with these c/c plates.
I had the same issue with my J&M adjustable camber/ caster plates. I ended up clearancing the part where it was going to hit with a mini sledge hammer just enough to let the strut pass that point, while making sure to not go too crazy there, to get the caster number recommended in the alignment specs found on this board. You may not have to go that far back with your setup potentially, so I'd set it up close to it, but not hitting, and go to an alignment shop, and see what the numbers are at that point, and clearance it slightly if necessary, if you end up needing moving the strut further back. I did this about 6 years or so ago, and haven't had any issues. I did cover up the strut, and sprayed the clearanced area with rust proofing to make sure the metal didn't start rusting in that spot. Priming it, and painting it would be another open to rust proof it in that spot as well.
Thanks PG29. Did you set your caster/camber plate to the forward position in the slotted holes on the car and then use only the caster adjustment in the plate?
I'd like to fool proof it such that it can't be moved back far enough for the strut to hit, somehow.

I believe I pushed the whole caster camber plate as far back as it would go, and then used the caster adjustment to go back a bit more to get the number recommended here. There's no way to really foolproof it, you'll just have to set it, and lower the car back down and see if it will hit or not. If it looks like it will hit, move it forward a bit until it won't hit, and take it to an alignment shop, and see where you're at. Might need to do a bit of clearancing like I did, or you may not.
