Upper and lower control arms

Can someone help me out in understanding what is meant by upper and lower control arms?
I don't see upper control arms. I'm trying to buy new bolts and see different sizes and a reference to either upper or lower.
thanks in advance

You may want to educate yourself on what a Mcpherson strut suspension and torque arm suspension are if your looking for upper control arms on your third gen

Re: Upper and lower control arms

These cars have no upper control arms. Only lowers.

that's what I mean. I'm trying to understand why websites show different size bolts and classifications for upper and lower when I filter on my year.
i.e. Hawksmotorsports website -

Lower Control Arm Mounting Hardware Kit, BMR

$15.95

i.e. Summit website

UMI Performance 2303 - UMI Performance Replacement Control Arm Bolts

Control Arm Bolts, Upper/Lower, Lock Nuts, Kit

Re: Upper and lower control arms

Both of those kits you linked to are for 4th gen Camaro/Firebird, for the FRONT. Those DO have upper and lower front control arms. Those are NOT for our cars.

Some older full-frame cars, Chevelle for example, had both front AND rear, upper AND lower CAs. Not these cars though.

Try specifying "rear" when you look up "control arm". Those, you'll find that the 4th gen and ours are the same (82-2002). 81 back didn't have CAs in the rear at all; they were all leaf springs.

They aren't really "trailing arms" although people call them that sometimes.

Thanks for the additional info. Those results came up when I searched specifically on my year. I think what's happening is the bolts apply for the newer Camaros as well so it's easier for them to just state it like that. I ended up ordering the Spohn ones.
Thanks everyone for helping out.
